Cage‑rearing is the mainstream large‑scale farming mode for meat‑producing pigeons. One pair of mated breeding pigeons is kept in each cage, completing the whole breeding cycle of mating, egg‑laying, incubation and squab‑brooding inside the cage.

The cages fall into two main categories: stepped cages and stacked (vertical‑type) cages. Hot‑dip galvanized cages are the industry standard. Supported by automated feeding, manure removal, drinking‑water and environmental‑control systems, this system is suitable for meat breeder varieties such as White‑King pigeons and Landing‑King pigeons, and has become the preferred solution for large‑scale squab‑farming bases in China.

Introduction to Egg‑producing Pigeon Cage‑Rearing

Egg‑producing pigeon cage‑rearing is a dedicated cage system aimed at producing commercial pigeon eggs or fertile hatching eggs. It consists of two major systems: ① Male‑female paired egg‑breeder cage‑rearing, which produces fertile eggs for hatching and offspring reproduction; ② Two‑hen paired commercial‑egg cage‑rearing, which produces unfertilized commercial pigeon eggs that will not be incubated.

Hot‑dip galvanized dedicated egg‑pigeon cages (predominantly stacked‑type, with a small proportion of stepped‑type) are adopted, matched with automatic feeding, automatic egg collection, PP‑belt manure‑removal and environmental‑control systems. Egg‑pigeon cages are specially optimized with egg‑rolling nests. Once laid, pigeon eggs roll automatically into the egg‑collecting trough, lowering breakage risks caused by trampling. This is the mainstream industrialized model for pigeon‑egg production in China.
